NYC
Kenslie Young is an actress and singer, based in NYC.
She has loved acting and theater from a very young age. As a kid she loved to watch bloopers and behind the scenes footage of anything she could find. She loved film and television, but not just the finished project, she loved getting a glimpse of the creative process. Dreaming about working on a set or a stage one day was one of her favorite pastimes growing up. Born and raised in rural North Carolina, where film and television projects were practically nonexistent and even community theater was sparse, she thought her dream of acting professionally was far out of reach.
As a 17 year old, she did what most of her friends and family said was impossible and moved to NYC during the COVID pandemic. Knowing no one, she was fueled by faith that this city that seemed to add gasoline to that creative fire burning within her, was where she belonged. Though she spent a couple of years ignoring her dream to act in order to pursue a more ‘sensible’ career, that dream never stopped nagging at her. Now, after graduating college, she has moved permanently to Manhattan, and is pursuing that dream that was doused for so long.
She currently studies The Stella Adler Technique under Welinton Vallejo. She has attended many acting classes and workshops over the years including Broadway Rise Academy. She has performed at The Green Room 42 and been a part of many theater projects. She has been able to work on a short film that has yet to be released.
Alongside Acting and Singing, in her free time, Kenslie enjoys traveling, painting, writing, reading, baking, crocheting, watching films, and of course, going to Broadway shows. She is constantly trying new hobbies such as designing accessories and teaching herself piano to name a few recent ones. One of her many side hussles that currently supports her budding acting career is being an usher on Broadway.
She most recently worked at The Majestic Theatre during its revival of Gypsy. Kenslie loved the opportunity to be in a theatre every day and learn from the amazing staff she was able to work alongside of, as well as all of the many lessons there are to learn from observing incredibly talented performers do the same show day in and day out. She sincerely hopes she will one day refer to ushering as her first job on Broadway and believes in faith that it will not be her last.
Kenslie wants to take a moment to Praise God for all of the incredible opportunities He has given her. And the outstanding people she gets to call family and friends that she has met along the way. She knows that she wouldn’t be where she is today without the love of her community and their support in her and her dreams.
She prays that she will be able to glorify God through any opportunity she is given and firmly believes that if it’s not for the Glory of God there is no point to go on.
